The RODE VideoMic Pro is one of the best selling shotgun mics amongst enthusiast film and video makers. RØDE first released the VMP in 2010 and it has served a lot of film making enthusiasts really well but there were a few things about it that weren’t optimal. The mic had a little bit more noise than we generally wanted and the rubber band shock mount design didn’t always hold together very well. The only other things that aren’t perfect on this mic are the plastic body and the lack of RF shielding, but for $250, those are sacrifices many of us can live with.

RODE has redesigned the VideoMic Pro to address those first two issues and keep the price the same. In this episode we do a quick demo of the mic so that you can hear for yourself!
