Dickie Guess Jr. was born on April 9, 1958, the tenth child of Dickie Guess Sr. and Margaret (Fort) Guess in Kansas City, Kansas.

At an early age, Dickie Jr. accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He obeyed the Gospel and for over 50 years, Mr. Guess was a dedicated member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Kansas City, KS, serving on the usher board, recreation for the vacation Bible School and a member of class #5 Sunday school. Throughout his Christian journey, Dickie remained a loyal servant and devoted himself to the faith - never losing sight of God’s promises.

Dickie was educated through the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) - attending Abbott Elementary, Northwest Junior High, and graduating from F. L. Schlagle High School in 1976.

Dickie was employed at AT&T Grocery Store, Fred’s Market, Milgram’s Grocery store, Fast Fred’s Market, and the Kansas City, Kansas School District as the head custodian at his beloved Alma Mater, F. L. Schlagle for 31 years, where he would later retire in January 2021. He was respected, appreciated, and valued by staff and students.

Dickie met the love of his life in 1989 and was charmed by Sheila K. Lewis; he inherited three bonus children, whom he loved at first sight and cared for as his own. He joined Sheila in Holy Matrimony on June 13, 1998, and they shared a joyous union. As their family grew, he became affectionately known as “Papa” by his grandchildren and they would be showered by his love, playfulness, and affection.

For over 20 years, Brother Dickie Guess Jr. have served in the Prince Hall Masons Lodge, Widow’s Sons, No. 17. Ending with the title of Master Mason.

Dickie had a passion for many things - playing basketball, hosting family gatherings and special holidays, his lawn care business, and especially appreciated traveling - he traveled to many places including Alaska, California, Hawaii, and Canada to name a few.

After an extended battle with prostate cancer, Dickie Guess Jr., departed this earth on June 10, 2023, to be with his Heavenly Father.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters - Bobbie M. Lavender and Glenda R. White, and one brother - Reginald A. Guess.

Dickie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, brother in Christ, and friend. He will be deeply missed.

In everlasting love, he leaves behind an abundance of loved ones that will cherish his life: his wife, Sheila Guess, two daughters, Quinthea Lewis of Warner Robins, GA, and Kamiasha Tyner (Marlyn), and one son, Edward Moses Jr., both of Olathe, KS; nine grandkids - Diaja Lewis, Kelise Moses, Mariyah Tyner, Khalil Moses, Raylin Coulter, Kamryn Tyner, Roderick Coulter Jr. (R.
