I was thrilled to find out that I received the new model, Pleatco Advanced Filters, instead of the normal Pleatco PA106. I didnt even know that the Advanced models were available for sale yet, so it was a pleasant surprise.
I have done some research on the HAYWARD C-4025 filters, and I found out that Hayward doesnt actually make the filters themselves. They license other manufacturers to produce them based on specifications such as height, diameter, and internal throat diameter.
There are about five different manufacturers that make these filters, but not all of them are equal in quality.
In my experience, the two best filters that I have found in terms of overall performance and value are the Pleatco model PA-106 and the Aladdin model 20601 R. There is also a copy of the Aladdin filter made by Primal.
I previously used the Unicel model# C-7488, but I found them to be far inferior to the Pleatco and Aladdin filters.
The internal throat of the Unicel filter, where the water is pulled through the filter media, is just a plastic pipe with holes spaced out about two inches apart.
This resulted in very poor flow. On the other hand, both Pleatco and Aladdin use a grid pattern that is far superior to the Unicel filter. In my opinion, Pleatco is the best option available.
If you can find the Pleatco filters for less than $175 for a pack of four, I highly recommend getting them.
