How Scott Hemberry Came to the Historical Christian View of the Law: MBS Special

As a Messianic, it’s always interesting to me to read church history. There is always so much pronomian language from all of the famous theologians from Clement, to Augustine, Aquinas, Martin Luther, John Wesley, and beyond, that it baffles me how we have come to this very antinomian place as a church culture. Historically, the church has always believed that we need to follow the law. In fact, famously, Martin Luther’s sermon format followed this vein: “This is the law that we need to follow,” “you have not followed this law,” “therefore you are condemned to death,” “but Jesus has paid for you to be given free grace.” Talking to me today is my friend Scott Hemberry, the head pastor of Exodus church in Longview Washington. I met him because of a conversation I was having with the PNW Superintendent regarding the importance of the law. The Spnt. gave me Scott’s number so I could join him at his Bible Study he leads. We connected, and have been meeting almost weekly now since then.
He grew up in the Free Methodist denomination, got a BA in Pastoral ministries from Central College in McPherson KS, and has been in ministry for 27 years. He has been pastoring at Exodus church for 16 years as part of the Free Methodist denomination. Recently we have had interesting conversations regarding the law, and I wanted to talk to him today to give his testimony.
