Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro is barred from running for office until 2030

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, known for his far-right ideologies, has been barred from running for office until 2030 by a panel of judges. T

he decision was made based on the conclusion that Bolsonaro had abused his power and spread baseless doubts about the country’s electronic voting system.

This ruling significantly disrupts Bolsonaro’s political future and greatly diminishes his chances of regaining power, The Associated Press reported.

Five judges on Brazil’s highest electoral court unanimously agreed that Bolsonaro had utilized government communication channels to advance his campaign and fostered mistrust in the electoral process.

Two judges dissented from the decision.
