Are you looking for a clean , inexpensive , and family owned place to stay while traveling the Carolinas ? Well check out Pine Acres Lodge in Laurinburg , North Carolina . Laurinburg is located in Scotland County on the boarder of North and South Carolina . It is where I recommend staying if you are in the area or around Bennettsville , South Carolina in Marlboro County .

From what I can find on the web it looks like it opened in the 1950's . Of course it has been remodeled over the years and the last time I was there it looked like all the roofs were brand new . The rooms are nothing fancy , but clean with a mini refrigerator , microwave , hair dryer mounted on the wall , heat lamps in the bathroom , cold air conditioning , satellite TV , and other amenities . The grounds are beautiful with lots of green grass and tall pine trees giving lots of shade . There is a pool and picnic tables around the area . Outside of the rooms are chairs so you can sit out and get some fresh air .

Their is also washer and dryers available to catch up on your laundry , ice machines , and vending machines . The decor is old style like out of the 70's , but the furniture is actually new , just not fancy modern style . If you want something like that , there are several chain hotels to stay at in Laurinburg , but they will cost you twice as much to stay there . I would rather save my money for some good Southern Food in the area .

Smithfield's Bbq is a short drive away and has some great Pulled Pork Sandwiches and fantastic Fried Chicken . Biscuitville makes homemade fresh biscuits every morning and you can watch the lady in the window making them . Bojangle's Chicken is a chain like Popeye's and the Spicy Chicken Biscuit will knock your socks off and they sell Cheerwine out of the fountain which is a North Carolina brand soda that is a local favorite . Captain Larry's Seafood and Steaks is a local favorite and they even have an Elvis impersonator that sings there sometimes . Miyako Japanese Cuisine is the place to go if you are looking for Asian cuisine .

Laurinburg is an hour and a half from Charlotte , N.C. and two hours from Myrtle Beach , S.C. It is off the 15-401 and U.S. 74 highways . It is also an hour from Fayetteville , NC or Ft. Bragg , N.C. If you are on your way to see the NASCAR races in Darlington , South Carolina it is an hour drive from there also . It is 17 miles away from my hometown of Bennettsville , South Carolina .

When you are visiting the Carolinas be sure to pick up some Blenheim Ginger Ale Hot ! It is a South Carolina favorite that has been around for years . They sell it in Laurinburg at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store . They also sell the Diet and Mild , but the Hot is the way to go . Cheerwine is a North Carolina soda to try also . Hardee's is a good place for breakfast biscuits too . The Country Fried Steak Biscuit and the Country Ham and Egg Biscuits are tops on my list and I always get them when I visit the Carolinas . They don't serve either one of these biscuits at Carl's Jr in Las Vegas where I live now even though they are owned by the same company .
