I recently replaced my old filter lid with the Pentair 178553 Almond Lid Assembly Replacement Clean and Clear Pool and Spa Cartridge Filter and I am extremely impressed with the results.
Although it took me a bit to get it on, which is likely because my filter is not perfectly round, it fit perfectly once it was in place. One of the reasons I needed to replace my old filter cover was because it severely leaked after over 8 years of service.
The first photo was the original cover that leaked at the crease just below the label. However, with this new cover, I had no issues with leakage.
I was a bit hesitant about the price, considering that all these plastic filter parts are pressure formed, but the manufacturer says theyre fiberglass reinforced, so I figured it was worth the investment.
Everything went together easily and the fit was perfect. One thing to keep in mind is that its important to use teflon tape to seal the threads of the gauge.
Additionally, I had a small issue when attempting to install a new 0-ring seal - the cover fit was too tight. However, I was able to clean and lube the original seal using WD-40 and it installed with just a little coaxing.
I also cleaned the seal seats or grooves using alcohol. One thing to note is that there are two different covers - model 178553 and model 178561, which look similar but have different heights.
According to Pentair, both covers will fit, but theres some confusion as to which model is newer.
The taller cover is cheaper and doesnt have any creases in the plastic where mine leaked, so its something to consider unless your filter is enclosed and there are clearance issues.
Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the Pentair 178553 Almond Lid Assembly Replacement Clean and Clear Pool and Spa Cartridge Filter.
The quality of the materials and the ease of installation make it a great investment for anyone looking to replace their old filter cover.
