Federal judge denies Trump’s request to dismiss E. Jean Carroll’s first defamation lawsuit

A Manhattan federal judge rejected former President Donald Trump’s motion to dismiss advice columnist E. Jean Carroll’s original defamation lawsuit against him. Carroll filed the lawsuit in 2019 which is separate from the defamation and battery lawsuit she was awarded $5 million in damages for in May 2023. The lawsuit is set to go to trial early next year.
