In Nebraska, the population is 14.5% people of color, but the state supreme court has no justices who identify as people of color. The report found that Nebraska is one of only two states with a population of at least 20% people of color that has no racial or ethnic representation on its state supreme court.
The report also found that women are underrepresented on state supreme courts across the country. Nationwide, women hold just 39% of state supreme court seats, even though women make up more than half of the population. In Nebraska, women hold just two of the seven seats on the state supreme court.
