This video is all offshore passage making. Our initial departure is rescheduled because of Tropical Storm Gonzolo and Hurricane Isaias. The direct bluewater route from St. Croix to Grenada takes us past a little-known island in Venezuelan waters where we encounter unknown lights and go into a high-security mode. Are they pirates of the Caribbean from Venezuela or hard-working fishermen? We don’t want to find out.

At this time we really only have a few choices for hurricane season in the USVI. We can stay and have a higher chance of a direct hurricane hit, or we can go to Maine or Grenada, really the only two places open and safe(er). Grenada was closer to the southern ocean and South America, where we hope to go on our around-the-world voyage.

We see large waves and a max wind speed of 38.4 knots as we barrel towards the blue-green waters and volcanic black sand beaches of St. Georges Grenada where 14 days of quarantine await us. Our top boat speed while double reefed and surfing storm waves was over 11 knots.
