What was YOUR First Launch Day Gaming System?

Over the years, I've had many different video game systems from Atari, Nintendo, Sony, and others. But there can only be one first, so what was the very first gaming system I got on the launch day? Was it the Super Nintendo? The NES? What about the Dreamcast? The results may surprise you.

In 2006, I was working for my first company in a non-retail role and making pretty decent money. As such when Nintendo announced the Wii at E3, I knew I had to have one. The day pre-orders opened I went to my local Gamestop to order, but the pre-orders were gone. Then I went to the next Gamestop, but that one was full too. I had one last chance, and I had to go somewhere I hated going. I had to go to Downtown Champaign, Illinois to Campustown, and there laid my last, best hope for a launch day Wii.

I hate one-way streets, which is part of the reason I hate going to Downtown Champaign. But this was a situation where I had to suck it up to get my launch day Wii, just like Cartman! When I got to the store I asked if there were any preorders available, and sure enough, there were! I managed to order my Nintendo Wii, a Classic Controller, and a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Red Steel. I figured between those two and Wii Sports, I'd be golden for quite some time.

When I got my Wii, I also did something dumb. I traded in my PS2 and a bunch of games toward my Wii. Yea, I wasn't very smart about that. But man, I had so much fun with my Wii, and even play the same system 23 years later. I still have the original system, all the cords, my Wii Remote, and Nunchuck, however, I long since pitched the box.

What was the first system you got the day it first came out and was available? Did you get it yourself or was it a gift? Do you still have that system today? Let me know by commenting below!
