Evening Reading and Reflection: (Psalm 140(141)) The Test Is Whether or not We give into Temptation

Good evening. Great is His faithfulness.

Both Psalm 140(141) & Psalm 141(142)- are the psalms of the evening incense.

Psalm 141(142):2: "I cried to the Lord with my voice, with my voice I prayed to the Lord." This was sung in Israel, and now in the Church, during the offering of incense to God. We are taught in Revelation 5:8- that the incense is the visible sign of the prayers of all God's people. Even the prophet Malachi (see Malachi 1:11), the incense was brought to Christ as a gift at His birth, and it has been used in the worship of the Church from her very beginning.

Let's look at vv. 3-4 here in Psalm 140(141): "Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, a door of enclosure about my lips. Incline not my heart to evil words, to make excuses in sins with men who work lawlessness; and I will not join with their choice ones."

My evening struggle is with "UNTRUTHFUL DECEPTION" - things and even some people aren't who they say they are. But here in vv. 3-4- I get my answer (I'm upset and want to say something, but truth is quite and the lies are loud) I'm definitely being tempted and tested at the same time. The Lord permits trials and tribulations to occur to test the genuineness of our faith to Him. We are tempted by evil because we live in a world that is full of this disobedience, and tonight I'm turning to the Lord to allow me to process all of this in peace. Temptation is part of our free will, remember the Lord doesn't tempt anyone, it's evil that brings the temptation, but our test is whether or not we give into the temptation.

Numbers 6:24-26

“The Lord bless you and keep you;

25 The Lord make His face shine upon you,

And be gracious to you;

26 The Lord [a]lift up His countenance upon you,

And give you peace.” ’
