Federal ministers hold a news conference in Vancouver to release the updated version of Canada’s first national adaptation strategy, which aims to prepare the country for the impacts of climate change. The federal government committed $1.6 billion in new funding over five years when it initially launched the strategy in November 2022. The government will work with the provinces and territories on bilateral action plans to implement the strategy, which focuses on five priority areas.
Taking part are ministers Steven Guilbeault (environment and climate change), Jonathan Wilkinson (natural resources), and Bill Blair (emergency preparedness), as well as George Heyman (B.C. minister of environment and climate change), Councillor Mike Klassen (deputy mayor of Vancouver), Chief Wayne Sparrow (Musqueam Nation), and Syexwáliya Ann Whonnock (councillor and spokesperson for Squamish Nation).
