During the late pre-spawn and early post spawn, crappie will stage in large schools on the deepest weed edges on our northern lakes. Casting a search bait, like a curly tail, is a great way to find these schools fast and catch a lot of crappie during the spring and early summer. My go to color for crappie bait this time of year is black and chartreuse (aka yellow jacket). Fan casting and slow retrieving this curly tail over the top of weed beds with help you catch a ton of crappie this spring and early summer.
