Mix Brown and Gray Fur Colors in Latex Paint

In this video, my daughter, Jessie Rasche, shows us how to use just four colors of latex paint to get a wide range of brown and gray fur colors. For reference, she used a photo of a moose with a lot of different colors on his face, which could also be used for a wolf, rabbit or deer. Her colors ranged from cool to warm, light to dark, and grey to brown - a great mix for wildlife art.

If you'd like more in-depth training in color mixing, she has a color workshop (and a special discount) here: https://jessierasche.com/jonni/

In this video she shows us how she painted a goose: https://youtu.be/_DZrmdJ2Tpg

And here's a video about drawing from your imagination: https://youtu.be/_awQJKHI3sA
Her 'color theory 101" video will be up shortly. Subscribe to her channel to make sure you don't miss it. 😊

The brush Jessie is using to play with the colors on the brown paper is called a 'grainer brush.' You can find it on amazon.com here: https://amzn.to/3F1ewAJ (affiliate link)

If you'd like to see how I used these colors to paint my moose, you can see that new video here: https://youtu.be/q4tgKGS5FP8

The colors she used in this video are Sherwin Williams paint that she bought at Lowes:
Sweet Cardamom (the orange-brown color)
Tuxedo (the dark inky color)
Newport Gray (very dark teal)
Dusky Morn (the lightest color, a warm light gray)

By the way, there are articles all over the internet that say that the sample colors you buy at the paint store are "not real paint."

So I called our local Lowes and asked them if that's true. And no, it's not.

The nice lady at Lowes said she uses exactly the same base and pigments to mix the sample sizes as she does to mix up the quarts and gallons. It's exactly the same paint. Is that true for every brand or every paint store? We don't know, so be sure to ask when you're buying your samples.

My video about painting the moose with Jessie's latex colors is coming soon. You can find the moose pattern on my website at https://www.UltimatePaperMache.com/moose-pattern
