Your approach to health and wellness matters.
If you approach diet and exercise as a punishment, you are more likely to lose momentum, harm yourself physically and emotionally, and make food, exercise and your body into "the enemy".
This will bathe your body in stress hormones, which will then contribute to weight gain and/or various health issues.
Of course what you do matters; however, the intention and energy behind it can have a huge affect on your outcomes! If what you have been doing up until now is no longer working for you; have a listen to this, and learn a different approach that could make all the difference.
