The military-industrial complex. This phrase was first coined by President Eisenhower in his farewell address to the United States in 1961. He gave a grave warning about a system developed in the United States where you have military contractors, companies that get rich off of war.

They take that money and get politicians in their pockets through lobbyists and giving politicians jobs. Once they are no longer in office, they can pass laws instigating more wars.

Those wars, in turn, caused the U.S. government to spend even more money on fighting those wars. And where does that money go?

Back into the pockets of the military contractors. And while Eisenhower first warned America about this in the sixties, it has only worsened.
