It was a bit windy and the sun was pretty low, but it flew quite well and I am very happy with my first time taking it out. It was all caught on camera by my GF too!
It flies a bit like a combination of the original Parkzone F4F Wildcat Parkflyer, E-flite UMX P-51 Mustang, and the E-flite UMX P-47.
Pros:
- It flew very well in some fairly rough air
- Ailerons rolls were tight and very easy
- It has landing gear and can be belly landed
- Other than the defects on the main wing, it is a nicely finished plane
- It has a powerful 3,000kv 2S brushless motor
- The battery bay is large and provides easy access to this area
Cons:
- The landing gear is really narrow like the scale Cat and makes keeping it on its wheels during landings very difficult
- Mine had a lot of marks and a big ding all over the main wing making an otherwise beautiful plane look fugly.
- The elevator design is flawed causing tuning to make it ready for its maiden flight
This is how Horizon Hobby describes this UMX Wildcat:
"From Pearl Harbor through 1942 the F4F Wildcat was the only U.S. fighter in the Pacific capable of thwarting Japan's naval air forces. Although slower and less maneuverable than the vaunted Zero, its heavier armor, self-sealing fuel tanks and rugged airframe could often help a skilled pilot overcome this performance gap and live to fight another day. Edward "Butch" O'Hare was just such a pilot. He distinguished himself in a Wildcat by becoming the U.S. Navy's first fighter ace and earning the Congressional Medal of Honor. This ultra micro recreation bears the markings of O'Hare's aircraft and is a tribute to him and all the other Wildcat pilots who faced the might of an empire and prevailed."
