E-flite Pitts S-1S RC Biplane Maiden Flight On 4S Scorpion 1800 Lipo
This is my official E-flite Pitts S-1S RC Biplane Maiden Flight. I decided to go against the grain and do it on my new 4S Scorpion 1800 Lipo instead of trying it on 3S first! The second flight was with my 3S Scorpion 1800 Lipo, which will be uploaded soon.

I got this plane because I absolutely LOVE my E-flite UMX Pitts! In you will see my fly the plane, trim it, test out SAFE, and have a horrible first landing. That was partially due to SAFE being on limiting the controls after landing, but mostly I just didn't bleed off enough speed to prevent the bouncing. I also showed the battery voltage after its 5 minute maiden flight, which was very impressive!
Here are the pros and cons for this Parkflyer 850mm Pitts:
Pros
- It is beautiful
- It flies well on 3 or 4S power
- The size is terrific for transport
- It comes with AS3X and SAFE Select
- The tail wheel is very solid
- The battery bay slides out, which is a pretty cool, but it does have its downsides (see below)
Cons
- It likes to land hot and bounce!
- The ailerons are very touchy (58% D/R is best for me and this plane)
- Getting the battery tray in and out of it scuffs the back of the main wing
- The build has some quirks and the manual does not match up completely with the parts and pieces, especially as it applies to the prop assembly.
- Assembling the main wing took way too long, but it wasn't the end of the world.
- It has been reported in the manual the recommended CG is farther back than it should be. 86 to 70mm is the recommended CG range.
- The main landing gets bent very easy!
Note: After I completed shooting this video, I noticed that the ESC had come loose. I recommend making sure it is secure before attempting to fly it. I also I knocked the aileron dual-rates down to 58%, down from 70% after this flight to make it fly even better.
This is how Horizon Hobby describes this RC Stunt Biplane:
"Nothing compares to a Pitts biplane. Critics around the globe agree—flying one will spoil nearly all other aerobatic experiences. First flown almost 75 years ago, to this day the Pitts plans, kits, and finished biplanes that leave the Aviat Aircraft Company, are all remarkably similar to the pioneering original design. The E-flite Pitts S-1S park flyer is a tribute to the Curtis Pitts design that distinctively combines an authentic appearance with great handling for incredible performance any RC pilot can appreciate.
The E-flite Pitts S-1S scale biplane is an officially licensed replica of the full-scale aerobatic icon that’s expertly designed and equipped to deliver a flight experience that’s easy to enjoy. The overall dimensions distinctly capture the revolutionary Pitts outlines while EPO construction helps present scale detail with a high level of durability. Even though installing and removing the wings is incredibly simple and tool-free, this beautiful bipe is sized so you probably never need to take it apart. Like the full-scale, under the hood is the kind of power that distinguishes this aerobat as a potent performer with virtually unlimited potential. Ballistic vertical climbs, dizzying snaps, crisp rolls and sharp corners are just a few of its specialties. Scale pilots will appreciate its smooth flight performance and level of detail, while everyone will enjoy its power system versatility. Whether you choose to fly this one-of-a-kind aerobat on a 3S or 4S LiPo, this Pitts S-1S bipe RC Plane will deliver an aerobatic experience without equal."

Perhaps I should mix it up next with an E-flite F-16, Freewing F-18 Blue Angel, or that new E-flite P-39 lol
