Wat Tham Khao Prang, Chaibadan District, Lopburi Province

Wat Tham Khao Prang is a striking temple located in the northern part of Lopburi Province. It’s an amazing sight as you drive through the fields of rural Thailand.

This area was originally called Khao Lom Fang (probably describing the mountain).

In 1973, a famous monk named Suwat Kamphirathammo, disciple of Father Lee Dhammatharo of the Asokaram Temple, Muang District, Samut Prakan Province made a pilgrimage to this temple. When he saw the mountain and the area he decided that it would make a perfect place for a temple.

Construction began on the temple February 12, 1988. Wat Tham Khao Prang was completed and received Wisungkhamsima on September
13, 1996.

Although this temple is a modern temple and has nothing to do with the city of Si Thep, but the mountain on which the temple is located is one of the most prominent peaks located south of the ancient city. The peak can be seen when standing on the ancient site of Khao Klang Nok and looking down to the south.

The peak was probably used as a landmark for people traveling from the Khmer city’s of Si Thep and Lopburi. Now it is a landmark for travelers doing the same thing via the road. Seeing the huge white Buddha in the distance is an amazing site. The temple is worth a visit if you are in the area and it was enjoyable climbing the stairs to see the whole place.
