The Toronto Raptors Are Stuck On This Crucial Decision

The Toronto Raptors are stuck with this challenging problem and that problem is what to do in the offseason, reports came out before the draft that said that upper management in the Raptors organization doesn't think the current iteration of the Raptors is in any way inferior to other teams in the eastern conference, teams such as the Miami heat or the Boston Celtics. this is concerning because from outside of the team looking in, one could tell that's just not the case. The Toronto Raptors lost to the Chicago Bulls in the play-in tournament earlier this year and not too long after that the Miami Heat beat that same Chicago Bulls team en route to the finals, they also beat the number one seed the Milwaukee Bucks, the Boston Celtics and they took a game off of the Denver Nuggets, these are all things I don't think the Raptors are capable of doing and it is clear to see that the Raptors need to make big decisions this offseason and Masai Ujiri the president of basketball operations said the same thing after that horrendous loss to the Chicago Bulls. So if he is saying the opposite now then something is wrong because the Raptors do need massive change and granted they fired the last head coach Nick Nurse, who in my opinion wasn't the problem there wasn't much he could've done with the talent that he had, and as proof, he was immediately hired as a head coach for another team. It is a roster change that The Raptors need to make. starting with Pascal Siakam, I've been a big proponent of trading Pascal Siakam for the past two years now, even though he recently came out and said that he will not sign with the team he is traded to and wants to stay a Raptors for life. although that is flattering the Raptors have reached the ceiling with him and need to move on, they cannot run it back with the same roster they had this year. and in fact, they probably won't because it is unlikely that they will be able to keep Fred Vanvleet, he is currently very coveted in the free agency market. so in my opinion they are stuck with the choice of either continuing with this current iteration of this team or going in the direction of a rebuild which is what I think is the right decision.
