I recently purchased the Shimano Deore XT CS-M8000 11-Speed Cassette in 11-40 and I am extremely happy with my purchase. I decided to ditch my 2x10 setup and go for a 1x11, and this cassette worked out perfectly for me.
With a single 34 up front and the 11-46 at the rear, I didnt lose much in between and the 46t is great for crawling up steep hills.
I paired it up with an XT mech and shifter and set it up in about an hour, and like most Shimano products, I can simply forget about it once its set up.
The shifting is smooth and effortless, even when changing up to the 46t. When I initially ordered this cassette, I received the M8000 11-46 with a front chainring of only one stage, which didnt work for my three-stage chainring setup.
After requesting a refund, I purchased the 1/2/3 11-40 and used it on a bike tour last weekend in the South province. The feeling of shifting on hills was incredibly satisfying and I would highly recommend this cassette to anyone looking to upgrade.
In my opinion, this is the best cassette out there. I am also running the 11-42 on another bike with a 34t chainring, but with this cassette on my current bike I wanted to run a 38t chainring for a little more top speed.
It worked perfectly and although in low it may feel slow, it can power through any hill.
