Catatonia in severe autism. (NMS catatonia originally, from risperidone. It has a second driver; depression. The catatonia became chronic though we try to live without it. If it kicks in full swing, it is one heck of a battle to get him back.)
Contorting is a symptom of catatonia, not autism. Never been a symptom of autism. Also, Sometimes I ask my friend Duncan to go with me to help get my grown son out of the car when he refuses due to the symptom of immobility (or "freezing", "positioning" & the slow side of catatona generally - in catatonia. Lil' b LOVES Duncan. Great friend, <3 But this trip we kept our requests for b to make transitions minimal. BECAUSE camping in and of itself was such a victory. Such an advancement out of catatonia (it can be treated and go into remission) Limited to hygiene, because that is where he was at with the catatonia.
