What Is the Day of the Lord?

You have likely heard the expression “The Lord’s Day”, or “The Day of the Lord”. In many cases the speaker will infer this is referring to Sunday as a day or religious worship. However this assumption is not in any way supported by the Scripture itself.
What is the Bible referring to when it use the phrase “the Day of the Lord”?
