Garm has a lot of health. Maybe more than any story mode boss. However he doesn't have any health limit points. That's when the game doesn't allow you to do more then a certain amount of damage. Nidhogg for instance has a lot of them in her fight. So you need to have all the best gear to really pull this one off.

The first method shown is a safe method that minimizes the chance of Kratos taking damage. I would imagine this is far easier for most players. The second method does it much faster but comes with more risk. Scorched Earth does a lot more damage if you hit an enemy during their attack. Garm's hit box is large and even during Realm Shift he moves fast enough to create problems for you. It will definitely take a few tries to get use to this. But with practice you can do either of the methods relatively easy.

In both phases Garm's attacks are completely random. Other then the massive AOE (area of effect) attack he does at the start of phase 2 he does his attacks in whatever order he wants. Sadly that means you need to be patient if you get some bad luck. Also for this fight Garm is immune to Sigil Arrows Hex effect. That's why I changed from Vanaheim Enchantment to Niflheim.

When you use the Restart Checkpoint feature you need to wait for Garm to get all of his health back. If you do it before that you will be sent back to the start of the first phase. Keeping that in mind if you want it to go a few seconds faster don't do any damage to Garm when he is laying on the ground. Doing so would just make it take a little longer before you can use the Restart Checkpoint.

For the second phase hitting him before he lands his attack is very difficult. The timing has to be perfect. The attack is a massive AOE so you cant position yourself to not get hit. Also the timing when he is in range to be attacked is basically the same timing when Kratos can get hit so it really is a pain getting it right. After you get you're attack off use you're shield to have a chance to block the attack incase he gets it off. Without Realm Shift I don't think its possible to do it with any consistency.
