@pushingblack RACIAL PROFILING: TOLEDO BED BATH & BEYOND CALLS COPS ON BLACK SHOPPERS FOR NOTHING

Lamar Richards and his boyfriend had just moved to a new home in Toledo, Ohio and decided to get some items from Bed Bath and Beyond for the house. As they were shopping, they were stopped by an employee who took all items from their cart priced over $200 and put them behind the counter until they checked out. When they went to check out, they noticed some cops waiting. At first, they didn’t assume the police were there for them, but as they began to leave after checking out, they heard one of the police ask an employee if they had paid for their items. At that point, it became crystal clear.

In a very polite yet assertive way, Richards began discussing the matter with the employee to get to the bottom of what happened and was met with rude, aggressive, and short responses. The manager was called over and kept the same energy, claiming it was their right to call the police. The fact is, the staff painted this Black couple as criminals and treated them as such too. To add insult to injury, the couple tried returning the products, but were refused and told “All sales are final.”
