Afshin Rattansi goes underground with the Head of Campaigns and Policy at Global Justice Now, Polly Jones, who lifts the lid on our foreign aid budget. Britain’s Department for International Development is working on foreign aid projects with multinationals from Coca-Cola to Pearson that aim to privatise healthcare and education in developing countries. Our aid budget is 0.7% of GDP and some of that money is going to transnational corporations with investment plans in the developing world. Global Justice Now is calling for greater transparency when it comes to spending taxpayer money on foreign aid, making sure the most vulnerable are the people our budget assists, and investigating any conflicts of interest in the way money is spent.
