The long the story the more confusing. The longer the story the less you start to care. That is why there is a trend of shorter anime and manga.
I mean take a look at how long these that we have all been following for the longest time.
Naruto 700 Chapters - 720 Anime Episodes
One Piece 1058 Chapters - 1053 Anime Episodes
Bleach 698 Chapter - 366 Anime Episodes
Despite its popularity Dragon Ball didnt run for that long.
One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach all have fine plots and great payoff, but in the eyes of modern viewers, these shows take far too long to get to the meat of the matter. Their story arcs go at a leisurely pace, and even the filler-free original manga might do the same. During serialization, these series might take up to three whole years to wrap up a major storyline, such as the Fourth Great Shinobi War. Meanwhile, Demon Slayer, an instant shonen classic, has just 205 chapters in total. It took roughly that long for Bleach to tell the Thousand-Year Blood War arc alone -- unthinkable by modern standards.
