The rules of composition are sometimes confusion, and it's a pretty boring thing to read about if we're honest. But learning these simple rules of composition in an easy and flexible way can make the world of difference for your sketching.

In this video I'll show you my basic process for setting out an urban sketch composition, enabling us to then get to drawing architecture with a loose and interesting one line sketch, a drawing that captures the essence of the scene, but is also simple and easy to complete.

We will use the rule of thirds and the fibonacci spiral to look at features of our reference photo, and find what composition works the best for our chosen subject and sketch.

And it's really not as hard as it looks, or that boring. In fact, I think it's quite fun to try out these little composition sketches and work towards our perfect focal point and sketch!
