How can we know if God has really forgiven us? The Bible does say that we are 'examine ourselves, whether we be in the faith.' That doesn't mean that we go around obsessed with a 'sin consciousness' but simply look at our lives and the desire of our heart.

If those desires and behaviors are exactly the same as they used to be, then very likely a change has NOT happened.
