Former President Charged with Federal Crimes: Analysis Reveals Defenses and Weaknesses

But unlike president Trump’s laughable indictment by Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg, the case brought by special counsel Jack Smith over Trump’s alleged retention of national defense documents is serious and appears to be backed evidence.

The case may have started as a witch hunt but because of various missteps and blunders – particularly by Trump’s lawyers, Trump now finds himself in real legal jeopardy.

The most serious charges relate to process crimes which stem from how Trump responded to the investigation itself, as opposed to any underlying wrongdoing to do with classified documents.

Luckily for Trump, there are a number of possible defenses, as well as weaknesses in Smith’s case.
