KENNEDY ISLAND AND PT-109

Todays History Adventure video will be focusing PT-109 and President Kennedy, then Navy Lieutenant and his crew.

On August 2, 1943, PT-109 was struck and cut in two by the Japanese destroyer Amagiri near the islands of Gizo and Kolombangara.

After the sinking of PT-109 the surviving crew made their way to different islands to avoid Japanese troops.

History Adventures will take you to Plum Pudding Island (now called Kennedy Island), Olasana Island and Naru Island. Walk around all these islands and take a look at what Kennedy and his crew would have seen.

On August 8, 1943, the survivors of PT-109 were finally rescued. Walking on Plum Pudding, Olasana and Naru Islands is like walking into history.

To think of what the crew of PT 109 endured, shark invested waters, Japanese troops, the heat and bugs, just makes the history more fascinating.
