Authorities announced on Wednesday that a Canadian surveillance vessel has detected additional underwater sounds in the region where rescue teams are tirelessly searching for a submersible that went missing in the North Atlantic. The submersible was carrying five individuals on a mission to reach the wreck of the Titanic.

Coast Guard officials are deploying additional ships and vessels to intensify the search within a more defined area, although the precise location and origin of the sounds have yet to be determined, the Associated Press reported.

Captain Jamie Frederick from the First Coast Guard District revealed that the search area spans a vast expanse, approximately twice the size of Connecticut, encompassing waters that are 2 1/2 miles deep.
