Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, known in Japan as Super Mario: Yoshi's Island (スーパーマリオ ヨッシーアイランド Sūpā Mario: Yosshī Airando?) is a platform game developed and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Its release in Japan was in August 1995 and in October 1995 in the United States. The game is a prequel to Super Mario World, where the player this time controls only Yoshi, who must accompany Mario as a baby through six worlds, in order to reunite him with his brother Luigi, who had been kidnapped by Mario's henchmen. Baby Bowser.

The visuals of the game were hand-drawn, bringing a new style to the series. In addition, the game's graphics have special effects made by the Super FX 2 microchip, allowing for a beautiful look for the game. Yoshi's Island received widespread critical acclaim and mixed praise for its aesthetics, sound, and gameplay. The game has sold over 4 million copies worldwide, making it the seventh best-selling SNES game.[1]

The game reappeared in 2002 for the Game Boy Advance under the title Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island, and featured a remake in 2006 for the Nintendo DS, titled Yoshi's Island DS and a port for the Wii Virtual Console.[2] The game was produced by Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, and Takashi Tezuka served as one of the game's directors.
