When I reach my goal I'll upgrade my sketching tutorials with a new camera and use my old camera to give an extra view point in my videos! Perhaps my face, perhaps my watercolour palette, or some close ups of my process!

So it’s time for to update you on what’s currently in my watercolour palette – what are my favourite colours for urban sketching and why?
This video should give you all the answers. But please let me know in the comments any questions, thoughts or challenges!
I’ll show you my palette, and quickly explain why I use this specific design of palette. Before swatching out each of the watercolour paints in my palette, and discussing their pros and cons.
This is supposed to be a quick look inside my palette, something to give you ideas/inspiration, and it also helps answer the most common question I get – what watercolours do you use??
These are mostly Daniel Smith colours, though a couple (e.g. ultramarine) are Winsor Newton. I prefer Daniel Smith for their vibrancy and their texture when you squeeze them out into a tube.
It’s worth noting that I have several palettes – this is specifically my urban sketching palette. It’s small, portable, hard wearing, and the colours are interesting and heavily granulating. Making for awesome textures.
For watercolours and illustrations I have different palettes, with flatter perhaps less vibrant but more easily mixed colours. Though the idea is still the same, lots of shadows, lots of blues, and a couple of other primary colours in there too.
I think my particular urban sketching palette is fairly unique – lots of the colours are popular amongst all sorts of sketchers, but I’ve not yet seen someone with this same collection so I’m going to (for now) at least pretend it’s totally unique 😊
