Simple Urban Sketch - Easy Hatching for Shadow, Light and Negative Space

1

Here's a really simple way to sketch a scene that incorporates both lots of lovely greens and trees, alongside some picturesque village-y buildings.

Please leave a comment letting me know what you think? Is this much negative space great or boring?

We will be using minimal equipment - one 0.2mm fineliner and a size 2 mop brush, on A4 cold pressed paper.

We focus on an enjoyable pen sketch, using simple shapes and measurements to guide us towards accuracy. Before building up details and contrast using really simple hatching techniques.

The colours come next, and we'll be focussing on how to mix lovely greens - for example, how do we take a base green and make it brighter, duller, more realistic, or deeper? Well watch this video to find out exactly how I do this!
