Matchbox Restoration Vintage - GMC COE Dinky 948 Mclean

Hey everybody and welcome back to another restoration!

Today we will be restoring a vintage Dinky Supertoys No 948 Mclean Truck. Mclean was a trucking company in the USA that started out in the 30's. By the 60's was one of the largest freight companies in the United States. They ran a fleets of all sorts of different trucks including the GMC Cannonball COE seen in this video.

This particular example I picked up in a parts lot I won on eBay. The truck was complete with a few broken wheels and a cracked trailer roof. Clearly this truck was well loved as I removed a good 3 layers of paint before I reached the original.

For those collectors who aren't familiar with the 948, the trailer originally came unpainted from the factory with a light gray finish. Due to the excessive layers of paint and yellowing on the original plastic, I decided to give the trailer a coat of Tamiya Chrome silver paint to replicate the polished aluminum trailers Mclean ran in the video.
