How to make a Mini Cleaver Knife with 3D metal etching. Cleavers are an excellent choice for the novice or beginner knife maker. They do not need a straight bevel or bevel plunge cut. In addition the design of most cleavers allows enough surface area for some very nice detailed metal etching. In this video we show how to finish a mini cleaver blank into a finished knife. Complete with two tone 3D metal etching. We used a car battery charger and salt water along with self adhesive vinyl to create this dynamic 3D etched image.

These mini cleaver knife blanks are perfect for beginner knife makers. They are 1095 high carbon steel and come pre cut and drilled. This short how-to knife making video will show beginner knife makers all the steps needed to complete a similar knife making project.

Self adhesive vinyl decals were cut using a craft cutting machine and then the blade designs were etched into the high carbon steel using a very simple process and a 12 volt battery charger. This etching process will be covered on a separate video.
