TAKE YOUR HARP DOWN FROM OFF THE WILLOW

Most of you may not know that I was a child star. Well, at least in our small Pentecostal World. I was advertised as the world's youngest gospel singer.
But of course, my dad said that; I had no clue if it was confirmed at the time. I would sing specials in the nightly revival meetings my father and mother conducted across the United States. But my career came to a crashing end when I had a voice change at about 12 or 13 years of age.
During that period of time, I had a favorite song titled "take your Harp Down from Off the Willow."
I had not thought of that song for some time, but today, It dropped my spirit, and I began to sing the tune again. The picture of the harp and the willow trees is in Psalms 137. As I meditated upon that chapter, I realized it was a message to you and me in the body of Christ for this hour that we live in.
The chapter starts with, "Along the banks of Babylon's rivers, we set as exiles morning, our captivity and whip with great love for Zion. Our music and mirth were no longer hurt. Only sadness. We hung up our harps on the willow trees."
The following line speaks volumes about the condition we are in today.
"Our captures tormented us, saying, make music for us and sing one of your happy Zion songs."
How sad, indeed.
Because their ability to worship was a crucial element in their victories, the worshipers and the musicians always went ahead of the priest and the people when they went into battle.
We have plenty of online visual worship experiences from various churches nationwide. So we are not without singers and songs.
However, what goes on in the heart indicates if we've hung or harped on the willow and stopped singing and rejoicing. The confessions we make, the conversations we have, and the fears that we hide would reflect the fact that there's no joy in our song.
Make a decision today to take your harp down and begin to play it again, and let your heart rejoice, for God knows how to deal with the adversary. He's had a lot of experience.
