Born in Taiwan and coming-of-age in San Francisco, Douglas Dietrich worked as both a Military Reference Technician and a Defence Department Research Librarian at the Presidio military base. Exposed to increasing levels of top secret and highly classified documents that were above his own security clearance, he was assigned to burn these but only did so under protest. Committing many of these to memory and taking notes, he has become a public informant since 2007.
