Massive fire breaks out at industrial estate sending huge plumes of smoke billowing over homes

Fire crews attended the scene on Clifton Street in Manchester early this morning
It is believed to have broken out at two industrial buildings in Miles Platting
Firefighters at the scene are making 'good progress' in extinguishing the blaze

A massive fire has broken out at an industrial estate sending huge plumes of smoke billowing over homes in Manchester.

Eight fire crews descended on the scene on Clifton Street in Miles Platting at 3.40am this morning where a fire is believed to have broken out at two industrial buildings.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said that four fire engines remain at the scene extinguishing the remaining pockets of fire, which had spread to four units at one point causing parts of the buildings to collapse.

They added that no casualties have been reported and there is no evidence of anyone missing, but they are not able to confirm this until the area is safe.

It is not clear if anyone was inside either of the buildings when the blaze broke out, while the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
