Sovereign or Slave?

[Transitional Times Poem Collection] -
‘Sovereign or Slave?’ – in this poem I pose the question ‘who would be willing ….’ in a number of ways, to encourage questioning and reflection. These questions are a pre-cursor to the notion and choice of whether to ‘hold strong as sovereign being’ or to ‘sit back as slave’.

‘Sovereign or Slave?’ is part 1 of a 2 part companion set with Part 2 is called ‘Who Would Be Willing’ with both poems exploring more of the ideas shared in the poem “St. Raw Man –STRAWMAN VOID”

Written 4th June 2023, this creation falls into my 'Transitional Times' poem category which contains 'a variety of Motivational and Commentary poems exploring issues of the time'.

Poem wording -

Sovereign or Slave? Part 1 of 2

Who would be willing
to fight for something …
they didn’t know
they were lacking?

Who would be willing
to stand their ground …
when the thought police
they came knocking?

Who would be willing
to stop and ask …
is this something
that’s really happening?

Who would be willing
to look at their past …
and see the truth that the
system’s been mocking?

Who would be willing
to take the time …
to discern the manipulations
in play … now; here; today:?

Who would be willing
to exert themselves ..
to ensure their children
don’t live on, in this way?

Who would be willing
as a sovereign being …
to hold strong
by day and by night?

Who would be willing
so sit back, as slave …
and put up the their lot
‘til it takes them to their grave?

Who would be willing
to speak up and say ..
“this is all surely
something worth stopping”?
