Emily in Paris? Try Audrey in Beijing. In the latest trailer for raunchy buddy comedy Joy Ride, which premiered at SXSW on March 17, TV and Broadway star Ashley Park enters her film era as Audrey, an American girl raised by (very, very) white parents. She can only speak English and “a little Gollum,” so she brings her childhood bestie (Sherry Cola) to be her translator on a business trip to Asia, where they also embark on a mission to find Audrey’s birth mother. Along the way, they assemble a crew including former college roommate turned Chinese soap-opera star Kat (Everything Everywhere All at Once’s Stephanie Hsu) and weirdo cousin Deadeye (Sabrina Wu). They’ll find hotties, drugs, and K-pop star alter egos. The movie is directed by Crazy Rich Asians writer Adele Lim and co-written by Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens co-creator Teresa Hsiao and writer Cherry Chevapravatdumrong. The comedy talent in this thing is stacked, and it’s coming out soon … hopefully like that last bag of coke Kat is looking for. Joy Ride hits theaters on July 7.
Joy Ride, a new raunchy comedy film starring Tony nominee Ashley Park and Oscar nominee Stephanie Hsu, has revealed a 1st look at the star players. Take a look above! The film is set to hit movie theatres June 23.
Directed by Adele Lim, the comedy follows four unlikely friends who find themselves on a once-in-a-lifetime international adventure when Audrey's (Park) Asian business trip falls apart. When her childhood best friend Lolo (Sherry Cola), college friend turned Chinese soap star Kat (Hsu) and Lolo's eccentric cousin Deadeye (Sabrina Wu) join her on the road, things quickly go off the rails in an explicit exploration of identity, self discovery, and the bonding power of friendship.
Joy Ride features a screenplay by Crazy Rich Asians co-writers Cherry Chevapravatdumrong and Teresa Hsiao, and is produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Josh Fagen. The original concept was conceived by Lim, Hsiao, and Chevapravatdumrong.
In addition to Park, Cola, Hsu, and Wu, the film will star Ronny Chieng (Crazy Rich Asians), Desmond Chiam (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Alexander Hodge (Insecure), and Chris Pang (Crazy Rich Asians).
