The Daiwa SS Tournament 4.6:1 Left/Right Hand Long Cast Spinning Fishing Reel - Whisker SS2600 is one of the best reels on the market for its price range.
I can say from personal experience that this reel is dependable and gets the job done without any unnecessary bells and whistles. I primarily fish for steelhead and salmon, and have used this reel in various sizes for years, with great success.
While it may be a bit big for fresh water fishing, it is still manageable if used on a 6 foot pole. One of the best features of this reel is its smooth cranking and easy drag setting, which makes it a pleasure to use for long periods of time.
It is also incredibly versatile, and can be used for bass, walleye, northerns, crappies, catfish, white strippers, and more. Whether throwing spoons, crankbaits, flippertails, or jigging with livebait, this reel can handle it all.
I have personally used it on a 7 6" All Star or G Loomis rod with 12 lb test mono, and have also spooled it with braided 30lb line for Muskie fishing.
Unfortunately, my previous SS2600 was stolen out of my garage, along with several other reels and rods. But, I am eagerly waiting to replace it, and this reel is at the top of my wish list, along with a Diawa Steez (a long shot, but a guy can dream).
