Escaped Jail, Lover Self Departed, and Now Facing a Life Sentence: The Casey White Story

This story took place in Florence, Alabama, on April 29, 2022. Florence is located in the state’s (Florida's) northwest corner and is located along the Tennessee River. It is known as the home of the University of North Alabama, the oldest college in the state.

Vicky White, assistant director of corrections, mapped out an escape plan and helped Casey White escape the Lauderdale County Jail in Florence, Alabama, from a police vehicle. There are claims stating Vicky White told coworkers the inmate, Casey White, had a scheduled psychological evaluation and she would be going to see her personal physician since she was not feeling well that day.
Coworkers were suspicious since inmates taken to the courthouse are usually escorted by two deputies instead of one. However, no one challenged her due to her position, authorities believe.
When the pair didn’t return to the detention center, an investigation began instantly! The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department was given surveillance footage taken at a local gas station. The footage showed White’s patrol car eight minutes after the pair left the detention center. Deputies also followed up on the courthouse’s itinerary and found there were no hearings or evaluations that day.
