The City of New York Conflicts of Interest Board ordered former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to pay a $155,000 fine and repay nearly $320,000 to the city for his use of the New York City Police Department during his failed White House bid in 2019. The board found de Blasio used city funds to pay the travel expenses for his NYPD security detail on 31 out-of-state campaign trips. Board members said they informed de Blasio there was no purpose for the city to fund his security detail outside the Big Apple before his campaign began, but the former mayor disregarded their advice.
