I have been using the Daiwa Ballistic LT Freshwater Left/Right Hand Spinning Reel for some time now and I must say that I am impressed with its performance.
I own the 1000 and the 3000 models and I have spooled them with Florida Fishing Products Ghost Grey Braid. With these reels, I have landed 3 foot sharks, a 40lb cow nose ray, Snook, redfish, and plenty of Trout.
These reels are incredibly smooth as butter. I fish in the flats and needed something light and tough, and Daiwa delivered with this model. When I come home, I clean them with bottled water and pat them dry, and they have not given me any problems.
All I use now are these reels and my Shimano Sustain 3000. If I had to choose between the Ballistic LT and my Sustain, I would go with the LT. The magseal is just bulletproof.
I absolutely love these reels. They are both light and strong. I took a 6000 to Costa Rica and smoked a Rooster, no problem. This reel stopped a 40 lb stingray against our going tide without any issues.
I dropped the reel in the sand and splashed it in the waves, but it continued to perform flawlessly. In fact, I am going to buy another as a backup because I never want to be without this amazing reel.
