Tragedy at Sea: Fishing Vessel Capsizes off Greek Coast, Leaving Dozens Dead

At least 79 people have lost their lives and over 100 have been rescued after a fishing vessel carrying migrants capsized near southern Greece, in what is the deadliest shipwreck in the country this year. Greek officials and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) suspect that there may have been hundreds more migrants on board the vessel.

The boat refused help from the coastguard before it sank approximately 50 miles off the coast. No life jackets were worn by the passengers. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by migrants seeking refuge and the dangers they encounter while crossing the Mediterranean.

What more can be done to address the risks and ensure the safety of migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean in search of a better life?
