ebike batteries dont just catch fire... what are they talking about?

Theres been lots of reports of ebikes catching fire lately, what is this all about? in my 20 years working with Lithium based batteries I've only ever seen a handful of battery fires and most of them were during 'tests' !!!

Anyway lets take a deep dive into the battery tech used in Lithium Ion batteries and try and help educate the masses on this new type of solid fuel.
