The fourth and final part of a series in which your Lordly host will guide you through some of the key aspects of one of the largest air battles in world history, and show you some sights and sounds you may not have heard before

This time the planes, the tactics, the culture of the beligerents, as well as a narrative description of some of the key elements of fighting.

As ever I reserve the right to be wrong, but I have done my best to research this as throughtly as I can and have leant heavily on various key books and sources noted below

Hit and Kill stats are always a bit open to interpretation, but result from some close study of the numbers by people much cleverer than I – if you want to look them up have a shufti at Stepehn’s Bungay’s Most Dangerous Enemy, and his source material, Peter Cornwell’s The Battle of Britain Then and Now from 1982. Cornwell spent the late 1960s and all of the 1970s looking at loss reports and tabulating them from records from both sides and is a seminal, if dense, work.

Peter Townsend’s “Time and Chance” is also worth a read if you can get a copy
